We think we know…
“You do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth…”
“You do not know the way and path of the wind…”
“You do not know the activity of God who makes all things…”
“You do not know whether morning or evening planting will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good.”
Ecclesiastes 11:2-6 reminds us that, in spite of all our best efforts, we are not the source of wisdom, and we do not always know even what we think we do know.
I have come to realize that often my biggest problem is that I think I already know.
Why is this a problem?
Because when I assume I already know, I cut myself off from the source of all wisdom.
I am created to walk in tandem with the Creator of the universe, the One Who knows all things (Ephesians 1:9, 19).
God,
Would you teach me to recognize
The peace and joy that well up in me when Your thoughts drop into me (John 5:24)?
When my “knower” is receiving straight from You (John 6:69)?
My discontent with “superficial wisdom” (James 3:15 AMP)?
Your invitation To “call out” (Proverbs 2:3) for “wisdom from above” (James 3:17)?
Would You do all this, so that I may know You experientially, getting to know You better as I practice exchanging my thoughts for Yours? There are so many facets to Who You are that I could never know You completely, but every time I get another glimpse, I receive an infusion on Your power (adapted from Colossians 3:10).
“When all has been heard, the end of the matter is: fear God [worship Him with awe-filled reverence, knowing that He is almighty God], and keep His commandments, for this applies to every person” (Ecclesiastes 12:13 AMP).
